It's All About The Tradition
Mankind's fascination with "Fire and
Food" dates back to the early stone age and has been an ever
evolving tradition in our world ever since. Traditions are
what defines us as individuals. Everything we experience
growing up, from the Pledge of Allegiance each morning in
class to always being respectful with a “yes ma’am” and “yes
sir” when spoken to. Easter egg hunts, Fireworks on
the 4th. of July, Baby showers, High School Proms, Playing
the National Anthem before sporting events, Tipping your
waiter, Birthday Cakes, Turkey on Thanksgiving, and the
list goes on and on. But when it comes to
traditions, there's probably nothing that we remember
more, defines us more, or we cherish more, than the food
we ate growing up. Who could ever forget those Sunday
dinners at our grandparent’s house? This was a
tradition in our family and most others I knew. Bet you can still remember at
least one thing Granny always had on that Sunday
table.
Equally important as the
ingredients that went into a recipe, were the many ways we
prepared them. From the stove in our kitchen, to the grill
out back or just an open camp fire. These methods of cooking
had a huge influence on ourselves, our family and those who
came long before us. Whether it was fresh baked bread from
the oven or a mouthwatering ham from the smokehouse, the
method we used to prepare our food largely influenced if
something would become a “Tradition” or an “Omission”. From
prehistoric days to the present, our skill of combining
“Fire and Food” has been a determining factor in the
preservation of mankind itself.
Our traditions with “Fire and Food” is what Outlaw
Barbecue is all about. To preserve, enjoy and pass on those
recipes and the methods of preparing them. No matter if it’s
an age old family secret or the latest technique in
preparing it, these will become our traditions, our memories
and our legacy.
